Races and Chases
Tournaments – In all Shapes and Sizes
Ever since the first stone age man wagered that he could throw a spear further than the other guy, Competition has been a healthy part of everyday life. Nowadays, competition is literally everywhere: Sports, Love, Games, your Workplace etc. We compete against ourselves, setting goals and working hard to achieve them; and we compete against others, whether on the football field or in the workplace fighting for a promotion.
Competitions can be a healthy way of encouraging action. This can be done personally through goals, or in groups through medals and prizes. We have with the Unibo Gamification and Loyalty Tool focused on creating a broad set of different types of tournaments, so that you can tailor the experience specifically for your player’s needs and wants.
Different ways of Competing
If you do not score, it is difficult to win.
Here at Unibo, our aim is to combine the entertaining part of Gambling with the exciting part of Competition, whether against yourself or against others.. Of course, in order to determine the winner of a race, you need a way to keep score. Just like in the real world, there are many ways of deciding the Victor of a Competition with our Campaign Tools.
The simplest competition form is of course “Do Something the Fastest/the Most amount of Times”. A good example in Online Casinos is the “Get a Point for every € Bet”-kind of Tournaments. These kinds competitions obviously favor the high roller. Focusing more on positive game outcomes (Winning X times in a Row, Winning more than X times your stake) and can get your smaller players more active in the campaign.
Winning and losing isn’t everything; sometimes, the journey is just as important as the outcome.
The idea with our Campaign Tools is to enhance the gaming experience, not to replace it. The Game should always be in the center, and the mechanics should work in the periphery. If you make your competitions overly complex with many different ways of earning points or many different missions to complete, you risk the Player detaching from the promotion all together and just going to play his favorite slot instead.
Building a Tournament
When it comes to composing a Competition to entice and engage your players to Play on your brand, there are a few things to keep in mind. Tiger Woods explains it quite well in this quote:
There’s no sense in going to a tournament if you don’t believe that you can win it.
The learning here is that if your Players do not think they have any chance of winning the Competition, they will not give a rat’s ass about it. If you create a Competition tailored to make sure your big players win it, do not be surprised if the engagement is poor in segments with smaller players.
Segmenting based on Player Activity and setting up different campaigns for each segment will allow you to tailor your promotion and make sure that everyone has a chance to win.
Always on the forefront
You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.
Here at Unibo, we took heed to the Quote of the legend Babe Ruth. Our aim is to constantly be on the forefront of imagining and creating engaging campaign tools. We are happy to listen to and discuss any Campaign Tool ideas with our partners.
