Ever since the first stone age man wagered that he could throw a spear further than the other guy, Competition has been a healthy part of everyday life. Nowadays, competition is literally everywhere: Sports, Love, Games, your Workplace etc. We compete against ourselves, setting goals and working hard to achieve them; and we compete against others, whether on the football field or in the workplace fighting for a promotion.

Competitions can be a healthy way of encouraging action. This can be done personally through goals, or in groups through medals and prizes. The learning here is that if your Players do not think they have any chance of winning the Competition, they will not give a rat’s ass about it. If you create a Competition tailored to make sure your big players win it, do not be surprised if the engagement is poor in segments with smaller players.

Segmenting based on Player Activity and setting up different campaigns for each segment will allow you to tailor your promotion and make sure that everyone has a chance to win.
